2016: Thoughts & Resolutions

Monday, January 11, 2016

Now, I know I'm a few days late to the 2016 resolution posts, but better late than never! For the last couple months of 2015 I spent a lot of time thinking about the changes I needed to make for 2016. I know it's so cliché to make New Year's resolutions but there's really no better time to start something that you've been putting off than a new year and new chapter! So after some reflection, I've narrowed down my list! I plan to address them more as habits for a better year rather than resolutions.

1. Lead a more positive life. OK, this is first on my list because its my #1 goal for this year that I believe will help me achieve the rest of goals and resolutions. I unfortunately (like most of us), have a horrible habit of not only over thinking things, but also letting the smallest things stress me out which negates a positive mindset, which then becomes very damaging in my every day life. I guess it's part of the chapter I'm at in my life as i face the fear of entering the unknown "real world" and trying to figure out my path in life. It's not only scary, but intimidating as well. I believe achieving a more positive mindset will ultimately help me be more successful.

2. Be more selfless. This is next on my list because I'd like to spend more time doing for others and showing more appreciation than I have in the past. I think leading a more selfless life can have a direct affect in terms of your own happiness because knowing you positively impacted someone else's life is not only an awesome feeling, but extremely rewarding as well. This kind of relates to the "pay it forward"trend thats awesomely enough, been extremely contagious lately.

3. Donate more time & money to charities. This is in correlation with my resolution above but is a little more specific obviously. For the last couple of weeks I've been seeing an abundance of heartfelt commercials for charities and non-profit organizations, which sparked my interest in donating. You can donate more than just your money, and donate your time as well which can sometimes be more rewarding. After doing some research I found a program called International Volunteer HQ which allows you to volunteer and travel abroad, for a fairly reasonable price. I'm making it one of my goals this year to participate in one of their programs and make a difference in someone's life.

4. Stay more up-to-date & a involved with the world around me. I find myself spending most of my spare time on social media or on frivolous websites which only waste my time and hold no true value to my life. So, although I am highly addicted to my phone, this year I plan to spend less time on social media & more time in the real world. I plan to surf my Flipboard feed more and twitter feed less as I've already deleted the majority of my social media accounts.

5. Stay more organized. OK, this is one of my more cliché resolutions but it's a must! I'm a pretty organized and OCD person as it is but I would like to stay more on track and organized throughout my daily life in hopes of having a better strategy for executing each day. I'm a little bit of a space cadet…oops!

Well I hope my resolutions inspired you to make your's if you haven't already and I hope I didn't bore you too much! If you have any resolutions that you find important or necessary to tackle this year, I'd love to hear about them in the comments below, as well as if you have any questions. Thanks for reading!
